The Proposal of Design & Develop Electric Harbor Craft in Singapore Has Been Selected by MPA
The expression of interest (EOI) launched by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on 10 July 2023 for proposals on designs and to promote adoption of full electric harbor craft (e-HC) in Singapore received 55 proposals from 32 international and local companies and consortia. After the evaluation, 11 proposals from 7 companies and consortia are selected by MPA.
Seastel Marine System (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. collaborates with Contemporary Amperex Electric Vessel Technology Co. Ltd. (CAEV), Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL), Guangdong SINOWAY Composite Materials Co. Ltd. (Sinoway), and YUET HING Marine Supplies Co. Ltd. (Yuet Hing) to constitute CAEV+ Consortium for EOI response. Its proposal of carbon fiber electric hydrofoil harbor craft is selected by MPA due to characteristics of light weight, fast speed, long range, and high comfort. CAEV+ Consortium will work together with MPA and other professional institutes to further enhance its e-HC design, including optimization of the vessel hull and electrical systems, the fire-resilient battery room, and cyber health monitoring system, to strengthen the vessels’ energy efficiency and safety.
While e-HCs currently require higher upfront capital cost due to the higher cost of the batteries and associated systems, it can be mitigated by energy cost savings, reduced maintenance cost, and less operational downtime. In addition, MPA already invited financial institutions and intermediaries to submit
financing and insurance solutions through another EOI to help early movers with the higher upfront cost of
owning e-HCs.
